You’re closer than you think

By inspirational speaker, author and radio host, Sharmen Lane

Times are tough, or so the media would have us believe. I know with so much going wrong in so many places and in so many areas of everyone’s lives it is very easy to just hang up our hat and quit. I know things are difficult. I know jobs have been lost, finances have been strained and hope is dwindling. But I ask you, if you were riding your bike up a steep mountain and you thought you didn’t have much left and were close to tossing in the towel, if someone were to be riding down the hill and said “hang in there, you’re closer than you think,” would be able to muster up the strength to keep going?

Thomas Edison said “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” I have spoken to a lot of people lately who are going through tough times and are finding it difficult if not impossible to stay on track and fight for what they want. I have been there and I am here to tell you, hang in there, you are closer than you think.

I have been working for three years to get a publisher to take my new book. I have been turned down by almost every literary agent and publisher on the planet. But I stayed my course and held strong in believing I could make it if I kept going. After more than three years, it happened. I finally got a book deal and I got it in one of the worst economies and troubled times in history. So I say ignore what anyone and everyone says about how times are going to get worse before they get better and all other negativity floating around today. Stay true to your goals and dreams and you will make it happen, but first you must believe. When you want to give up, just remember, “You are closer than you think.”
